Descripción de la oferta
CELLS is looking for a scientist to be incorporated in the Beam Dynamics Group of ALBA, in the Accelerator Division.
Location: Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain).
We promote diversity and inclusion: one of the goals of our gender equality plan is to reach parity within the Consortium’s different divisions and offices, and several actions have been taken to encourage applications from women, mostly in scientific, engineering and technical job positions.
Key functions
Take part in the beam dynamics design and simulations of the ALBA accelerators, including the new multi‑bend achromat ultra‑low emittance storage ring, ALBA II.
Extensive physics studies and numerical simulations for accelerators lattice optimizations.
Particle tracking and simulations studies, both for linear lattice design and for dynamic aperture and lifetime optimizations.
Use of accelerator codes such as AT, MADX and Elegant.
Participate in beam dynamics studies for analysis and upgrades of the present ALBA lattice: operation modes for new beamlines, development of alternative lattices for new modes of operation, setting up of measurements and data analysis for linear and nonlinear beam dynamics studies, etc.
Involvement in the design of the injection scheme for the future ALBA II accelerator.
As part of the Beam Dynamics group, the candidate shall contribute to all the tasks of the group.
As part of the Accelerators division, the candidate shall contribute to the operation of the ALBA accelerators, including shifts and on‑call, with availability to work on 24/7 shifts, and perform on‑call duties.
In due course and depending on the development of the accelerators and project requirements the candidate will be expected to take up work, within his/her expertise, as defined by the Division Head.
The candidate should have availability to travel, including occasional periods away from home.
Requirements
Qualify as degree level in an appropriate branch of Physics or Engineering (electronics, telecommunications, mechanics or similar).
Good command of the English language, equivalent to B2 level.
Selection Process Development
The selection will be carried out through the competition‑opposition system.
As a first phase, an analysis of the curriculum will be carried out (assessment of previous experience and / or scientific history, degree, training and other professional information relevant to the position). Career breaks or variations in the chronological order of CVs will be regarded as an evolution of a career, and consequently, as a contribution to the professional development.
The assessment of the CV in the competition phase will be scored up to 40 points, which will consider the following aspects:
Professional experience in related tasks at a rate of a half point (0,5) per month worked up to a maximum of 24 points.
The following specific formation and experience related to the tasks of the position will be evaluated, up to 14 points, with the following aspects:
Beam measurements, commissioning or operation aspects of synchrotrons or similar facilities, up to 3 points.
Simulation and optimization of dynamic aperture, lifetime, orbit correction, up to 2 points.
Lattice design of storage rings and transfer lines, up to 3 points.
Simulation, optimization or design of injection schemes, up to 2 points.
Simulation codes used in the accelerator beam dynamics community, such as MADX, AT, Elegant… up to 2 points.
Software languages: Python, C, Matlab, C++ , up to 1 point.
Development of accelerator tracking codes, up to 1 point.
Language skills up to 2 points:
2 points for at least having a high level (B2) of Spanish or Catalan.
The best rated candidates, at least two if possible, will be invited to an interview where the technical competence, knowledge, skills and professional experience linked to the position will be assessed, with a total score of 60 points. A minimum of 30 points must be obtained out of a total of 60 points to be eligible.
Provided they meet the minimum requirements and have ranked among the top five after the assessment of the CV phase, at least one person from the underrepresented gender in the division/office will be interviewed.
The interview will include at least:
Presentation of professional experience.
Auto‑assessment of soft skills.
Vision of the job position.
Motivation for applying.
The merits will be accredited by means of the CV attached to the application. The selection board may require accreditation by additional documentation, originals or certified copies confirming the experience invoked in the CV.
In case of a tied final score, the position will be awarded to the person who belongs to the most underrepresented gender in the corresponding Division and subsidiarily to the overall company.
If necessary, alternates of the members of the selection board will be appointed by the president of the selection process, and the change will be published in the announcement.
The resolution of the selection procedure will be carried out within a maximum period of six months from the deadline for submitting applications for participation.
The selection process may be declared vacant if the selection board considers not to have found eligible candidates for the position although they might meet the requirements to participate in the selection process specified in the offer.
