Data Scientist for Earth Sciences (RE2) Reference: 180_26_ES_ESS_RE2 — Closing Date: Saturday, 16 May, 2026 — Start Date: ASAP. About BSC The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC‑CNS) is Spain’s leading supercomputing centre, hosting the MareNostrum supercomputer and providing services to research in life, earth and engineering sciences. The centre employs over 1,000 staff from 60 countries. Mission The Earth Sciences Department researches, develops and implements environmental modelling and forecasting using process‑based and AI models, focusing on climate, air quality, atmospheric composition and climate‑related impacts, and translates these solutions to address societal and environmental challenges. Key Duties Examine the creation and multiplication of DRVs across different virtual communities Digital social network analysis Support methodological design and execution to examine the creation of environmental stewardship triggered by digital nature values Support large language model development Survey design, execution and data analysis Experimental design, execution and data analysis Requirements Education BA in Environmental Science or related area Formal education in data science (MSc level) Essential Knowledge and Experience Experience as a Data Scientist Experience in a research environment Coding in Python Additional Knowledge and Experience Good knowledge of statistics Domain knowledge in environmental science, geography or sociology Project management skills Competences Fluency in English Good written and verbal communication skills, including scientific writing Good problem‑solving skills Initiative, prioritisation and ability to meet deadlines Ability to work independently and in a team Conditions Location: BSC, Earth Sciences Department Part‑time contract with flexible working hours, extensive training, state‑of‑the‑art infrastructure, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, and relocation support. Open‑ended contract, 23 paid vacation days plus 31st December holiday. Competitive salary commensurate with experience and Barcelona cost of living.
