This is a pivotal role shaping the architectural, engineering, and technical standards that define our world-class facilities — ensuring excellence in design, quality, and innovation from concept through commissioning. You will partner closely with regional and global stakeholders to drive consistency, scalability, and sustainability across all projects while nurturing a high-performing design team and ecosystem of partners. Strategic Design Leadership Lead the full design lifecycle — from concept and feasibility through to detailed design, construction, and handover — ensuring alignment with DayOne's global design standards. Define and implement design strategies that optimize cost, efficiency, scalability, and sustainability across projects. Oversee the selection, coordination, and performance management of external design consultants and engineering partners. Project & Technical Oversight Drive design coordination across disciplines (architectural, structural, MEP, civil, and sustainability) to achieve fully integrated project outcomes. Review and approve design deliverables to ensure compliance with local regulations, global standards, and operational performance targets. Lead design reviews, technical audits, and value engineering exercises to ensure cost and quality optimization. Provide design leadership during procurement, construction, and commissioning — resolving technical issues efficiently and proactively. Innovation & Quality Promote continuous improvement by integrating lessons learned from prior projects into future design cycles. Champion innovation in energy efficiency, modularity, and design automation within the data center design process. Ensure designs meet the highest standards of safety, resilience, and environmental performance (LEED/BREEAM or equivalent). Leadership & Collaboration Build, lead, and mentor a multidisciplinary local design team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional growth. Act as a trusted partner to internal stakeholders, including Construction, Operations, and Commercial teams, ensuring alignment between business goals and technical execution. Represent DayOne externally with contractors, consultants, authorities, and clients as the design authority for Spain and Southern Europe. Qualifications & Experience Degree in Architecture, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or related field; Professional accreditation preferred. Minimum 12+ years of experience in design management for large-scale infrastructure or data center projects. Strong understanding of Spanish building codes, standards, and permitting processes. Proven track record in managing multi-disciplinary design teams and external consultants across multiple projects. Familiarity with design management tools (BIM, Revit, Navisworks) and data center systems (HVAC, power distribution, cooling, fire, and control systems). Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills. Fluent in English; Spanish proficiency strongly preferred. DayOne is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
