What are we looking for?
We're looking for one senior leader to own our entire Platform & Data vertical (infrastructure, developer experience, reliability, and data) This person will set the vision and strategy, build and coach the team, and stand up the engineering foundation the rest of the company will build on for years.
Platform and data share the same DNA: both are internal products whose customers are our own engineering, product, and business teams, and both win or lose on the same disciplines — standards, self-service, adoption, reliability, and cost. They can't be governed by two conflicting philosophies, which is exactly the risk two separate junior leads would create.
This role requires vision and multi-year strategy across infra, DevEx, reliability, and data — treating each as a product with a roadmap and adoption metrics, not a backlog of tickets; the ability to hire, mentor, and grow the engineers underneath, including future leads; and the cross-team authority to run scorecards, reviews, and escalations that hold other teams accountable. Foundations are far cheaper to build right from the start than to rehabilitate after years of accumulated debt — this is the role that gets it right from day one.
What will you do?
Platform (internal product)
Own our infrastructure providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and manage partner relationships.
Build shared frameworks, service templates, and pipelines used across engineering.
Own Developer Experience — obsessively optimize PR, deploy, and test-suite times.
Run CI/CD, staging, feature flags, and progressive deploys.
Manage shared tech: databases, queues, caches, and auth.
Own cloud cost visibility and optimization, plus operations and runbooks.
Reliability (built early, not as an afterthought)
Standardize the Four Golden Signals across every service.
Define SLOs and SLAs in measurable terms, not aspirations.
Turn reliability into a quantitative decision through error budgets.
Hold other teams accountable through public scorecards and reviews.
Own incident management, observability, and alerting.
Data Platform (talks to engineers)
Build our unified stack: warehouse/lake, ingestion, orchestration, and dbt.
Own regulation and compliance: GDPR, PII, retention, and data contracts.
Enable self-service access, plus data-quality tests and alerts.
Data Analysis & Ops (talks to product & business)
Build product and business metrics dashboards people actually use.
Lead ad-hoc strategic analysis — cohorts, channels, conversion.
Own experimentation: A/B framework, analysis, and governance.
Drive forecasting and growth modeling.
Objectives:
Month 1: Get a full diagnostic of the current state of infra, DevEx, reliability, and data across the company, and meet every team that depends on this foundation.
Month 3: Ship the first version of the roadmap for platform and data as internal products, with SLOs defined for the most critical services and the first scorecards in place.
Month 6: Have the team hiring plan underway, error budgets driving real prioritization decisions, and the unified data stack in production for at least one core domain.
Month 12: Have built and be coaching a team of leads underneath you, with platform, reliability, and data operating as mature internal products with adoption metrics the rest of the company relies on.
Proven experience leading platform, infrastructure, or data functions at a senior level, ideally having owned both at once.
A track record of hiring, mentoring, and growing engineers — including developing future leads, not just executing individually.
Hands‑on depth in cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern CI/CD practices.
Direct experience defining and operationalizing SLOs, SLAs, and error budgets — not just observability tooling.
Experience with modern data stacks (warehouse/lake, ingestion, orchestration, dbt) and data governance (GDPR, PII, data contracts).
Strong cross-team stakeholder management — comfortable holding other teams accountable through scorecards and escalations.
Ability to treat internal tooling as a product: roadmaps, adoption metrics, and NPS, not just tickets.
