An Application Scientist at ABT is a scientific and technical expert within the Research & Development team, responsible for bridging product innovation with real-world customer applications. The role combines laboratory-based product development, chromatography expertise, customer technical support, application development, and scientific collaboration with biopharmaceutical and academic partners.Key Responsibilities Technical Support & Scientific Communication: Provide expert guidance on biomolecule purification techniques and support customers in optimizing their downstream bioprocesses.Sales & Pre-sales Assistance: Partner with account managers to translate technical product capabilities into customer value, supporting business growth and strengthening market position.Application Development & Method Optimization: Design, execute, and optimize chromatography experiments and purification methods using customer or representative samples to evaluate and improve performance of ABT agarose-based technologies for proteins, nucleic acids, peptides, viruses, and other biomolecules.Product Development & Scientific Innovation: Contribute to the development, evaluation, and refinement of new agarose-based purification media within the ABT Research & Development team, supporting next-generation product innovation.Customer Insights & Product Improvement: Gather customer feedback, application challenges, and market insights to support continuous product improvement and guide future product development initiatives.RequirementsEducationMaster's degree or PhD in biochemistry, biotechnology, or a closely related Life Science discipline.Experience3–5 years of hands-on experience in biomolecule purification, chromatography, and downstream processing (proteins, nucleic acids, peptides, viral vectors, etc.), with exposure to technical customer applications.Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.Excellent scientific communication and presentation skills.Customer-oriented and consultative mindset.Ability to translate technical knowledge into practical customer solutions.Languages: Professional fluency in English (required).Additional informationOpportunity to travel to scientific conferences, trade shows, and customer/industry events.Full-time on-site position with occasional remote work possible depending on laboratory and business needs.Location: Torrejón de Ardoz, Madrid, Spain.Salary range: €30,000 to €38,000
