Chief Technology Officer (CTO)Lead the technological core of Kerionics: the development and industrialisation of the SOEC technology for market launch in 2028.About KerionicsKerionics accelerates industrial decarbonisation through high‑efficiency SOEC technology, targeting energy‑intensive industries such as steel, petrochemicals, cement, ceramics, and paper.ResponsibilitiesLead the cross‑functional technical development of the SOEC technology, integrating MEA, Stack, and BoP progress into a coherent product vision.Ensure the development process follows a New Product Introduction (NPI) logic with clear stage gates, technical pass/fail criteria, and traceability.Transition from R&D to industrialisation while maintaining scientific rigor.Directly manage the MEA, Stack, and BoP managers; support priorities and unblock progress.Build a technical culture based on data, intellectual honesty, and accountability.Play an active role in technical hiring decisions and professional development of the team.Provide top‑level technical judgment on open product challenges, leading decision‑making on cross‑area issues.Make technical decisions with incomplete data when necessary.Represent Kerionics before technology partners, research centres, investors, and industrial customers.Coordinate with the Industrial Project Manager on plant design and with the Quality & Test Manager on validation criteria.Lead the technical roadmap and present assessments and proposals to the CEO and board within the first quarter.Design and implement cross‑functional technical rituals and processes.Identify and integrate AI tools to accelerate technical work and documentation.Deliver product validation milestones according to agreed quality criteria and timelines.First 12 Months FocusTake ownership of the technical roadmap; present critical assessment and adjustments to the CEO and board.Build trust with MEA, Stack, and BoP managers; establish technical rituals.Strengthen the product development process; refine stage gates and documentation.Introduce AI tools into the technical workflow.Achieve the next major product validation milestones on schedule.Build Kerionics’ technical voice externally.QualificationsAdvanced degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Materials, Energy) or Materials Science / Chemistry; PhD highly valued.Minimum 5 years experience in high‑temperature electrochemical systems (SOEC, SOFC, fuel cells or equivalents).Minimum 3 years leading product development from R&D to industrialisation (TRL advancement, NPI, stage gates).Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.Solid knowledge of at least one of the product pillars: MEA/high‑temperature ceramic materials, stack design and validation, or BoP in complex energy systems.Fluent English (oral and written) for technical discussions and external representation.Availability to relocate to Valencia within 2–3 months.Valid work permit for Spain.Technical judgment, ability to operate under uncertainty, challenge the CEO constructively, combine scientific rigor with industrial urgency, lead through example, and stay current with AI developments.Preferable: Previous CTO, VP of R&D, or Head of Technology in a deep‑tech scale‑up; experience in full industrial scale‑up (TRL5–6 to TRL8–9); experience in target industrial sectors; Spanish language advantage; network in European hydrogen/decensional ecosystem.What We Offer€70‑80k gross per year (dependent on experience).Variable bonus up to 25% of fixed salary, tied to company and area objectives.Stock option plan (details to be discussed).Relocation support package for Valencia move.22 working days holiday plus Christmas period.Direct voice in the management committee and strategic direction.Annual training budget tailored to individual needs.Cross‑learning sessions across teams.Opportunity to lead technical development of a pioneering decarbonisation technology.Equal Opportunity EmployerAt Kerionics we firmly believe in equal opportunities.
