We are searching for a Cloud Engineer to join our Public Cloud Engineering team in our wider Public Cloud Transformation team. Joining the Public Cloud Engineering team involves creating reusable templates using Infrastructure as Code, delivering CI/CD pipelines for transformation initiatives, evaluating the new capabilities delivered by Cloud Service Providers and working with our wider team to ensure that they are secure, compliant with our policies and cost effective.
Your Main Responsibilities
Enhancing and maintaining a library of Cloud Infrastructure Templates using Terraform to enable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for all application teams to deploy cloud infrastructure in a secure and compliant way.
Creating YAML CI/CD pipelines using Azure ADO automating the application delivery compatible with all DevSecOps standards of Swiss Re.
Updating examples in a repository of end‑to‑end examples of how to use the templates for real situations including a multi‑layered IaC approach and managing contributions to the templates and examples from our user community through inner sourcing.
Assessing new cloud capabilities to deliver templates or shared services where appropriate, performing POCs and working with experts from other teams such as Cloud Platform and Cloud Security.
Providing engineering expertise to work with application teams to modernise their applications according to the new solution architecture, including design, implementation and testing of changes to the application and updating our products and services where needed.
Participating in the Cloud Architecture Forum presenting technical topics including architecture and engineering, taking and documenting decisions.
About The Team
You will be joining a skilled team of Cloud Engineers who are experts in cloud engineering and Infrastructure as Code, part of a larger Public Cloud Transformation team delivering business value through effective cloud adoption. The mission of this team is to deliver high‑quality engineering for products and services designed to help other engineering teams use Public Cloud and benefit from synergies across all our business domains. We work with the newest services provided in the cloud and aim to support and provide a modern cloud development experience to attract and retain the best talent and foster innovation in our business.
About You
University degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or comparable education/experience)
7+ years of relevant hands‑on development, engineering and architectural experience at an expert level.
Practical and broad engineering experience working with Azure and cloud‑native architectures including the ability to quickly learn and understand new cloud services and updates to existing cloud services from Cloud Service Providers.
Hands‑on experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Azure DevOps pipelines and an understanding of software development lifecycles.
Proficiency with containerisation technologies such as Docker and cloud orchestration platforms such as Function as a Service, Application Hosting Services or Kubernetes.
Understanding of cloud security including application and network‑level security best practices, able to apply and contribute to cloud security standards and guardrails enforced by Azure Policies.
The passion to deliver and support high‑quality engineering and services for other engineering teams to use and a keen interest in a modern cloud development.
Effective communication skills with the ability to build trust with technical teams and guide them in their cloud journey.
A good collaborator willing and able to work in cross‑functional teams working with internal and external stakeholders.
Strong analytical and conceptual skills and the capability to troubleshoot complex issues.
Comfortable working in a transformational and complex environment at a fast‑pace and getting things done.
Proficiency in English is required.
Role
For Spain, the base salary range for this position is between EUR 42,000 and EUR 70,000 (for a full‑time role). The specific salary offered considers the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role, the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.
In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance‑based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location‑specific benefits. Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.
