The IBEC Director is responsible for developing and implementing the institute’s strategic plan, leading research and innovation, ensuring financial sustainability, and representing IBEC to stakeholders. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Define and implement IBEC’s strategic plan and research activity program; submit to the Board of Trustees and coordinate execution.
Guarantee financial sustainability; secure income sources such as competitive funds and private sponsors.
Co‑supervise economic activities with the Administrative Director and oversee scientific human‑resources management, including selection and appointment of research positions.
Represent IBEC at official and social events in coordination with the President and other Board members.
Lead strategic development and foster a stimulating environment for top research in bioengineering.
Provide leadership for research units and ensure excellence of all IBEC activities.
Direct, organize and manage research, training and internal organisation of the institute.
Propose new research lines and funding opportunities to the Board.
Maintain regular communication with I‑CERCA, Generalitat de Catalunya, universities and other partners regarding progress.
Promote creation of value from research and establish internationally competitive laboratories.
Explore and foster new partnerships nationally and internationally to increase impact.
Act as spokesperson and communicator to key stakeholders, including funders, politicians and journalists.
Guide all institute members, especially strategic, technology transfer, academic and technical departments.
Support training, career development and mentoring at all levels in line with IBEC’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion program.
Appoint Administrative Director, deputy directors, unit, service, laboratory, department, academic and program managers and scientific advisors as appropriate.
Approve internal rules of operation jointly with the Administrative Director and in agreement with the Board of Trustees.
Lead evaluation of the centre and participate in the periodic CERCA evaluation and engagement with the CERCA system.
Contract Duration And Other Benefits
The Director will be appointed on an open‑ended contract, with renewal after five years upon evaluation. The mandate may be extended by Board agreement. Selection Procedure
The Board of Trustees will appoint a selection commission comprising part of its members and the Scientific Advisory Board to shortlist pre‑selected candidates after evaluating submitted documents. Short‑listed candidates will be invited to submit a vision statement and have a final interview with the commission. The commission’s final assessment will be presented to the Board, who will debate and decide on the appointment.

July – August – Short‑list of candidates and invitation for interview.
September – October – Appointment approved by the Board of Trustees.
