Head of AccountingAt ING we are looking for a highly skilled accounting leader with a strong background in the banking sector, capable of overseeing financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and the integrity of accounting processes. The ideal candidate combines deep technical accounting knowledge with proven experience in systems integration projects, working closely with IT, Finance, Operations, and other business areas. This role is essential for strengthening financial governance, enhancing process efficiency, and supporting the bank’s digital and technological transformation initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Financial ReportingLead the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes in accordance with IFRS and local regulatory requirements.Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the general ledger and all accounting sub‑processes (AP, AR, fixed assets, treasury accounting, provisions, reconciliations).Supervise the preparation of financial statements and regulatory reports, ensuring timeliness and high-quality standards.Compliance, Controls & AuditEnsure strong internal controls consistent with audit standards and banking regulations.Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external auditors, coordinating deliverables and implementing recommendations.Maintain up-to-date understanding of regulatory requirements affecting financial and accounting processes.Systems Integration & Transformation InitiativesLead and contribute to system integration projects, including data migration, process harmonization, system upgrades, ERP implementations, and connections with core banking platforms.Partner closely with IT and business teams to map accounting flows, validate data integrity, and ensure seamless interaction between financial systems.Drive automation, digitalization, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process efficiency and reporting quality.Leadership & Cross‑Functional CollaborationManage, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.Collaborate with key stakeholders across Finance, Risk, Treasury, Operations, and Technology.Support strategic decision‑making by providing insights, analysis, and financial expertise.Required QualificationsEducationBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.Experience7–10 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.Strong background in the banking or financial services sector.Proven experience in systems integration projects, including ERP implementation, data migration, process mapping, or financial system upgrades.Technical CompetenciesSolid knowledge of IFRS and banking‑related accounting standards.Experience with financial systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar and core banking platforms.Familiarity with integration tools and methodologies.Personal CompetenciesStrong analytical and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail.Ability to manage multiple priorities and work within tight deadlines.Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management capabilities.Proactive leadership style, with a focus on transformation and continuous improvement.BenefitsFlexible working arrangements with remote and office options.Comprehensive health and life insurance coverage for employees and families.Competitive remuneration model with tax‑advantaged options and access to additional services such as transport card and training aids.Access to company shuttle service and supportive workplace amenities (gym, clinics).Employee pension plan after one month of employment.Employee wellness programmes and network support.
