The Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) is one of Europe’s leading research institutions in the cancer research field. Located in state-of-the-art facilities in Madrid, Spain, the CNIO harbours at present more than 500 researchers working in both basic and translational aspects of cancer research, in a highly dynamic, energetic and international environment.The CNIO is seeking an experienced specialist in genomics to manage and lead a Genomics Core Unit providing support to CNIO Research Groups, focused on the implementation and application of genomic-based technologies to cancer research. The Unit is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation in the genomics field.Responsibilities- Provide scientific and technical advice to CNIO researchers in research projects requiring the application of deep sequencing technologies and any other approaches related to genomics analysis- Provide support to CNIO researchers in the analysis of data derived from those technologies- Implement or develop new technologies and methodological approaches in this area, integrating emerging genomic and precision medicine tools into the service portfolio- Ensure that the Unit keeps up to date with the technological innovations in the field- Propose and develop research projects aligned with the strategic interests of the CNIO, providing opportunities for the scientific and technical development of the Unit- Take on all the administrative duties related to the management of the Unit and supervise the staff of the Unit, providing them the necessary training and coaching- Evaluate and optimize all the processes related with the work of the Unit, providing troubleshooting and solutions to any issuesApplicants should hold a PhD degree in life sciences (biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or similar).Qualifications- Extensive expertise in deep sequencing technologies, including genome and exome sequencing, bulk and single-cell methodologies (RNA‑seq, ATAC‑seq, ChIP‑seq), spatial transcriptomics, variant analysis, metagenomics, epigenomics and genotyping tools (both mouse and human).- Competence in bioinformatics pipelines for genomic data processing, as well as data management practices following FAIR principles.- Excellent leadership and management skills, with previous experience in leading a core facility, dealing with administrative issues, supervising technical staff, optimizing workflows, and overseeing multi‑user platforms.- Creativity and innovative mindset to develop new protocols and methodologies.- Knowledge of quality management systems, with proven commitment to quality standards, data traceability, and regulatory compliance.- Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed international journals and experience delivering training to users and staff.- Excellent communication skills.- English fluency.BenefitsThe CNIO offers the opportunity of being part of a research centre of excellence with an energetic and collaborative working environment and a multidisciplinary approach to cancer research.
