ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme: Overview
ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme offers up to nine fellowships to national and international undergraduate students, giving them the opportunity to learn, work and live in an exciting environment of cutting‑edge research in chemistry.
Students are welcome to spend up to a 3‑month paid internship in one of ICIQ’s research groups between June, July, August and September. These fellowships are financed by the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ).
Undergraduates, mentored and supervised by a PhD student or a postdoctoral researcher, will carry out research projects with leading scientists while receiving additional training.
During their stay, students will have access to ICIQ seminars and conferences. By the end of their internship, Summer Fellows will present a short report and presentation of the work and results obtained.
This program also provides a pathway for Summer Fellows to pursue Master studies at ICIQ and subsequently apply for a PhD position within the institute. The Summer Fellowship Programme is supported by the ICIQ Severo Ochoa CEX–[grant details]. Deadline for applications: March 22nd. Contact: [contact information].
Eligibility and Requirements
The program is addressed to undergraduate students with a background in Chemistry, Physics, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or related disciplines.
Applicants with studies outside these areas will not be considered. Graduate students are not eligible.
Preferred candidates are in their 3rd year and/or final year (or have completed 50% of their credits) at the time of accepting the fellowship. Depending on nationality, a student visa may be required. Fellows must ensure their visa is ready before the start of their stay.
Conditions
Research stays run from June 1 to September 14, with a maximum stay of up to 3 months.
ICIQ Summer Fellows receive a stipend of 30€ per day (maximum 900€ per month) for the period of their in‑person stay. If a fellow completes part of the fellowship remotely, no stipend is paid for that time.
For stays shorter than 3 months, the stipend is prorated.
Non‑resident scholarship beneficiaries: withholding tax of 24% (Article 25 of the TRILNR).
Taxpayer residents of an EU or European Economic Area Member State: withholding tax of 19%.
Non‑EU nationals must obtain their own medical insurance for the duration of their stay.
EU nationals must obtain a European Health Insurance card before coming to ICIQ.
