The Role & the Team
The Network & Telecommunications Platform (NTP) provides secure, reliable network solutions supporting Airservices’ business and operations. As part of a multi‑year programme, NTP is modernising the network for the new Civil‑Military Air Traffic System (CMATS) by upgrading to an advanced IP network with terrestrial, microwave, and satellite technologies. This network supports Air Traffic Control, Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting Services, and administrative functions.
What You’ll Do
Provide expert support and management for secure networks and telecommunications systems, continuously improving processes to enhance cost‑effectiveness and meet user needs.
Support system design, planning, and implementation while investigating and resolving faults and user‑reported issues in collaboration with business units.
Prepare reports and proposals to recommend system improvements for industry best practice and provide technical support to the Network Security Services Lead as needed.
Assist in creating and reviewing submissions, specifications, plans, contracts, and documentation for new system components and system upgrades.
Ensure existing network systems meet CASA, ICAO, international and national standards, as well as internal technical, safety, and security requirements.
Be on call for at least one week per month, answering calls outside of work hours and attending to faults and failures as required.
About You
A recognised Diploma in a relevant IT or Engineering field is required as a minimum qualification.
7+ years supporting complex network security with strong expertise in Network Security Gateway technologies and architecture (NGFW, BGP, Load Balancing, VPN, IPS/IDS).
Understanding of IT security principles including Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM) and Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
Experience in detecting and responding to security threats with analytic tools, alongside expertise in systems engineering and managing change control processes.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally on technical and non‑technical topics, and to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Advanced certifications in Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Check Point, F5, and Infoblox are essential; relevant industry experience may be accepted as an alternative.
To Be Successful, You Will Bring
Strong experience in systems engineering, network operations and change management processes.
The ability to work with limited direction and exercise sound technical judgement.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to diverse audiences.
A strong safety mindset and experience working in 24x7, high‑reliability environments.
Qualifications & Clearances
Mandatory: Recognised Diploma in IT or Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Mandatory: Extensive hands‑on experience in Checkpoint Firewalls and Palo Alto.
Essential: Australian citizenship with NV1 Security Clearance (or ability to obtain).
Desirable: Experience with ITIL, ISM, ISO 27000, COBIT or similar frameworks.
Desirable: Registration with the Board of Professional Engineers, Queensland.
